ECOSTYROCRETE BOXES FOR WILDLIFE

ABOUT

Greenwood’s Ecohabitats make wildlife nest and roost boxes using an innovative and green material, Ecostyrocrete™.

After many years working in the field of people and Mental Health, I began a new path in Ecology and Environment. This was a revelation for me, tying together how we need the environment and how it needs us, how we function as a species and how our well-being is strongly linked to the natural world.

In recent years, I’ve worked on protected species surveys for new developments, and although we may need more houses, factories and infrastructure, I am concerned with habitat loss and other impacts suffered by wildlife because of human activity. To help offset this imbalance I developed Ecostyrocrete™. Taking used polystyrene that was heading to landfill, shredding and mixing it with cement, then moulded to make an insulated and durable home for wildlife.

Traditional wooden boxes can be draughty, leaky, prone to rot and fluctuating temperatures and have a limited lifetime of around 10 years. As an Ecostyrocrete™ box should last for decades, many generations of birds, bats, hedgehogs and insect families will be assured of having a roof over their head.

Here's a selection of Ecostyrocrete boxes - mainly for bats
